The capability to natively read PDF files is one of the more important and useful features that the Kindles 1 and 2 lacked. In the Kindle DX, Amazon finally addressed this issue. But what of the 1st and 2nd generations of the Kindle? The problem of course, remains. Load a PDF file into your device and nothing turns up. There are two solutions for this. The first involves sending an email to Amazon with the file as an attachment and asking them to convert the PDF into a file readable by the Kindle. The second is a do-it-yourself Kindle PDF conversion.

One thing you should know about the Kindle is that while it does not recognize PDF files, it can read PRC files. So what we’re essentially doing here is to convert the original documents into files that are recognized by the device. If you’re using a PC, the Mobipocket Creator is one of the programs that you can use for the conversion process, while if you’re Mac user, you can use Stanza. The end result is the same.

For the PC, the full version of Mobipocket Creator makes the conversion fairly straightforward. Simply open the program and go to the import file option. Select your PDF that you wish to convert for use on your Kindle. Select the HTML file it creates and click the build option. It may take some time depending on the size of the PDF, but it will eventually give you the file format you need. You can ignore any errors that pop up along the conversion process. While the file will not be perfect, it lacks a table of contents for instance, you will still be able to view a legible version of it on your Kindle.

The conversion steps are even more straightforward when using Stanza. Just click on the file, select import book from the options, then choose Amazon Kindle.

While these files work just fine, they are not completely perfect conversions. You will lose the table of contents when you convert with Mobipocket Creator. Fortunately, the program has the ability to create one if you put in a little more time and effort. While it may not be necessary for all files, some are large and need to be organized, making the table of contents vital. There might also be some areas that have some strange issues from the conversion, but the file should remain legible. If everything works properly, you will get a Kindle PDF conversion that works on your e-reader.

You still have the option to e-mail your documents to Amazon and have them converted for you, but the price can add up over time. If you don’t mind spending the time to do it yourself, these are just two programs that afford you the opportunity. There may be programs out there that you like better, but you will have to try them out to find that out. For simple and straightforward Kindle PDF conversions you can’t really go wrong with either of these programs.

If being able to read PDF files on your ebook reader is important but you don’t have the time for converting files, then get the Kindle DX. Affordable Touch Screen Phone

There has been a flood of touch screen phones that has been released onto the market. Apples iPhone is doing so well each cell phone company has been trying to release their own version of a touch screen phone to capture some of the magic. One such company to capitalize on the situation is Verizon Wireless. They took a design from their already existing line of enV phones and created the LG enV Touch. It is one of the newest touch screen phones to hit store shelves.

The LG enV Touch has a great design. It features 2 touch screens, one on the outside and one inside the flip compartment. Each screen can support 1.6 million colors which gives the screens a wonderfully vibrant display. The screen on the face of the phone displays an alphanumeric pad which can be used for dialing or text messaging. Underneath the flip section is a full QWERTY keyboard which is incredibly comfortable to use. The keys are spaced apart well and aren’t cramped together. Both touch screens work well but it can take a while to get used to the unique counter intuitive commands. To help with the transition process the phone offers a vibration or noise alert system whenever a touch is correctly registered by the phone.

The phone features a wide array of impressive features. Unfortunately it lacks Wi-Fi. One such feature is the drawing pad. It allows you to actually doodle a picture on the phones touch screen, which can be saved and sent to people stored on the contacts list. The enV Touch utilizes a USB port which many phone users desperately want on a phone. The USB port makes transferring data to and from the phone very simple and quick. The phone also features a full HTML web browser. Surfing the web is quite simple on the phone but again the touch screens odd functionality may impede some of the users out there.

The camera on this phone takes very nice photos. It features a 3.2 megapixel lens. There are a multitude of image control options such as six different resolutions, five white balance presets, three focusing modes, and much more. One of the more notable features is called Facial Makeover mode which removes all the unsightly marks and blemishes such as pimples from a persons face while taking a picture.

The phone has great call quality as well. Callers will sound crystal clear over the phones ear piece. Thankfully the speakerphone works just as well also. Callers will sound clear and will come through without interference through the phones speakers.

The enV Touch is a very capable phone. Anyone looking for an affordable touch screen phone with expansive features should look no further. The phone does have some chinks in its armor but it makes up for it with its amazing list of functions.
